At the end of the ‘Ithaca’ chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses the enigmatic reply to the final question “Where?” should be an enlarged full stop. Despite Joyce’s instructions for a large, clearly visible point many editions insert an alternative sign and some even omit it altogether, leaving the question unanswered. Interpretations of the mark’s meaning are legion, but this work draws a connection to the subsequent episode ‘Penelope’, as pages of a copy of Molly Bloom’s soliloquy (originally produced during an ‘extreme’ retyping jag on the night of Bloomsday 2016) were overlaid at regular angles to form an unmistakable big black dot.
