Totally Obliterated

2025

“You would do better, at least no worse, to obliterate texts than to blacken margins, to fill in the holes of words till as is blank and flat and the whole ghastly business looks like what it is, senseless, speechless, issueless misery.”—Samuel Beckett, Molloy

Totally Obliterated is a collection of asemic writing using Samuel Beckett's novels Molloy, Malone Dies and The Unnamable as source material. Each of Beckett's novels was retyped and the pages of the copy overlaid, following through on instructions about writing from Molloy. This procedure destroys all meaning from the original prose, leaving only a structure of heavily cancelled lines remaining.
